St Oswald's Hospice

Founded in the 1980’s, St Oswald's is a charitable hospice based in the North East of England. They provide outstanding specialist care to adults and children with life-limiting conditions and are committed to providing excellence in palliative care. In addition, they provide research and educational resources for healthcare professionals in the North East. Their need was for a modern intranet.

How "OsWorld" the intranet brings everyone together at St Oswald's Hospice

For some time St Oswald’s had been trying to manage collaboration and engagement via a legacy on-premise SharePoint intranet that was proving cumbersome to maintain and suffered from lack of use. Plus it didn’t provide what St Oswald's needed to maintain their position at the forefront of education and research.

Initially, the intention was to upgrade their SharePoint and add more functionality to work with their current hybrid IT infrastructure. However St Oswald's needed the flexibility of a cloud solution that was much more engaging and user friendly, and that could act as an internal communications platform as well as a digital hub for various processes across their 25 outlets, remote workers and diverse workforce.

Working with the IT and Comms departments to understand where the limitations were causing frustrations on their existing legacy system, Synergi demonstrated how the Valo Modern platform would work both technically and aesthetically to bring the range of different arms of the charity into one common solution.

Valo - providing a complete solution

Synergi demonstrated how Valo Modern could provide all St Oswald's needed, and also act as a process hub for digital forms and processes built in Nintex. Synergi fully installed the platform and provided a handover to the IT team at St Oswald’s, who were already experienced in SharePoint and found the Valo Modern solution both intuitive and easy to navigate.

The Valo Modern intranet gives St Oswald’s a flexible, modern workplace where everything just works and everyone can find what they need. Team members spend time both interacting with, and using the system, whether they’re a nurse working in the Focus on Living Centre, or a medical student on a 6-week placement. The charity even calls the solution “OsWorld” – with one of the most useful functions being the “ticker-tape” news line – useful for promoting key messages such as handwashing.

The success of “OsWorld” so far, has pushed investment in their digital transformation back up the list at St Oswald’s, and this along with a number of different applications that can be tapped into such as fundraising extranets, for example, are all in their plans for the future.
